General questions

• Why I need application for geotagging of photos? Photos are geotaggeg automatically in iPhone / Android OS, right?
• Right, if you make photos using your mobile phone, photos are geotagged automatically. But our application is not for geotagging of photos taken by your mobile phone, but by photos taken by real camera - means your compact camera or DSLR.

• Your desktop application is started from your website. Does this mean, that I have to upload my photos somewhere?
• No! No need to upload your photos anywhere! They stay safe on your harddrive. We only use internet connection to get location data from your phone to make geotagging process super easy.

• Do I have to always login to your website, if I want to geotag my photos?
• No, just just need to login only once. After first run of desktop geotagging application, you can select "Desktop integration" and next time run it from your Application folder (on Mac) / Start menu (on Windows). If you already disabled desktop integration, you can enable it again using Settings window.

• Is there any limit for how long I can store my trips on your server?
• There is no limit for users of Geotag Photos Pro. Sure you can delete your trips anytime, but we will not do it anytime. For users of Geotag Photos Lite (free version) we guarantee, that we will not delete your trips at least half a year after upload.

• I want to use Geotag Photos Pro on my vacation abroad and I don't want to pay roaming fees. Will it still work?
• Yes! You don't need internet/GSM connection to log your positions. Geotag Photos Pro only needs GPS signal, that is available free of charge worldwide. For the geotagging itself, you need to transfer small amount of data from your mobile phone to geotagging app using internet connection. But it can be done on hotel room where free Wifi is mostly available or at home.

• Apps looks interesting, but I want to test, if it will work with my camera / computer / phone.
• No problem at all! Try our lite version. Just search on AppStore / Android Market for Geotag Photos Lite.

• Do you support RAW camera formats?
• Yes, and plenty of them. We integrated great ExifTool so that Geotag Photos Pro can support more than 40 RAW files formats, including most common NEF, CRW, CR2, RAW, RW2 and so on.

• I forgot my username / password. How can I reset it?
• No problem at all. Just use reset username / password function.

• Which apps you can recommend for viewing of geotagged photos?
• There are plenty of them. You can use free Google Picasa, Apple's iPhoto or Aperture, Adobe Lightroom and many others. You can also upload geotagged photos to web services like Flickr or Locr.

iPhone related questions

• How much it will drain my battery?
• We spent pretty good time with battery optimalizations. Depending on which type of logging you will use, iPhone battery is good enough for more than day of logging. We found best results with iPhone 4, that use really little battery for GPS functions.

• I traveled across the half of Earth and now Geotag Photos Pro is not working! No location can be logged!
• When you travel significant location, than it can take some time to get first location. GPS chip has to simply adapt to new location and get all information about satellites. It can take from few seconds to few minutes to get the first location, but after that, everything works as usual.

• Can I use Geotag Photos Pro in Fly mode?
• No, in Fly mode GPS module is off. Don't ask us why (because from the other way Wifi can be on), but this is Apple rule and we cannot override it.

• Does Geotag Photos Pro support multitasking on iOS 4?
• Yes! You can just start Geotag Photos Pro and then forgot on it. It will run perfectly in the background.

Android OS related questions

• Which Android version I need to run Geotag Photos Pro? Which is minimal display resolution required?
• We support Android 1.6 and above, so that if you don't have some really old model, Geotag Photos Pro will works. Also regarding display resolution, 320x240 is the minimum (and we don't know any Android device with smaller LCD).

• How much it will drain my phone's battery?
• It really depends on your phone. But according to our tests, it is not so bad. On most phones, there is enough energy for day of logging. You can save energy, if you use less frequent automatic logging (like every 5 minutes or so).

• Application doesn't work on my Android phone. Can you help me?
• There is more than 200 Android devices today (and counting) and it is not possible to test Geotag Photos on all of them. But if you contact us at support@tappytaps.com and write your phone model, we will look on it and fix application to work on your phone.
